Matthew Hurt plans on cutting his list this Summer and then making a decision after that

The recruitment of five-star forward Matthew Hurt is starting to pick up a little bit and the North Carolina Tar Heels are involved.

Hurt has spent the past month playing on the AAU adidas Gauntlet circuit for Team D1 Minnesota and has made a big impression on several coaches. He has the attention of some of the top programs in the country including UNC, Kansas, Kentucky and Duke.

Early in Hurt’s recruitment, it was the Tar Heels, Jayhawks and in-state Minnesota Gophers that were showing the most interest. But as his play ascended, so did the offers.

Hurt now holds offers from 18 schools including the ones previously mentioned plus Arizona, Florida, Louisville and more.

The Minnesota native recently caught up with KARE 11 to discuss the recruiting battle going on for him and when we could expect an announcement. Hurt told the media outlet that he plans on trimming his list of schools down sometime in August.

From there, Hurt will likely take some official visits and a decision could come before the start of his senior year.

You can watch the full interview at KARE 11’s website.

As for where the Tar Heels stand in the race, they have to feel pretty good about making Hurt’s final list when it’s released. Roy Williams has recruiting Hurt heavily over the past year competing with Kansas and Minnesota.

He’s made a few trips to go see Hurt in that time span as well with the most recent coming on April 5th.

The Jayhawks currently hold the lead on the 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball predicton at 50 percent with Minnesota at 30 percent and UNC at 10 percent.

With Hurt’s recruitment starting to take some shape expect Williams and his staff to start making more of a press on him to land the forward. UNC is hoping to add him to their 2019 class that already has a verbal commit from point guard Jeremiah Francis.
