UNC commit Jeremiah Francis stays put in updated recruiting rankings

Point guard Jeremiah Francis is the lone commit in the University of North Carolina’s 2019 recruiting class. Francis offered his verbal to the Tar Heels back in 2017, giving them an early commitment.

The Ohio native picked the Tar Heels over in-state school Ohio State and was ranked as a four-star recruit right away. He’s been a consensus Top 100 recruit since he appeared on the rankings and has even moved up a little.

Just over a month ago, Rivals released their list of the Top 150 recruits in the 2019 class with Francis landing just outside of the Top 50. But he did crack that Top 50 in the 247 Sports rankings.

The recruiting site released its updated rankings for the Top 247 players in the 2019 class this week and Francis stayed put. He is ranked as a four-star recruit and No. 50 overall, staying in place since the last rankings were released.

Francis missed his entire junior year of High School basketball for Pickerington due to a left knee injury. He was originally expected to be out a few weeks and then it turned into months before eventually the entire season.

The point guard does expect to play on the AAU circuit this Summer and will return to action in his senior year. From there, he will enroll at UNC in 2019 and be on campus for the 2019-20 season.

He could become a very important recruit for Roy Williams and his staff due to playing the point guard position. UNC lost Joel Berry to graduation and with Jalek Felton leaving the program, that leaves Seventh Woods as the only true point guard on the roster. Woods will be a senior in the 2019-20 season and the hope is that his game elevates enough to where he can be counted on as the starter.

UNC also has guards Rechon Black and Coby White in their 2018 class. One could play point guard or even get some experience behind Woods next season.
