Roy Williams spent Saturday’s AAU sessions watching a 2019 prospect

Just a day after University of North Carolina Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams watched a trio of prospects in Dallas, he went down the road just a little bit to visit another recruit.

Williams was in Irving, Texas for Saturday’s AAU events and had his eye on a small forward in the 2019 class. According to Rivals’ Corey Evans, Williams watched small forward Jalen Wilson at the adidas Gauntlet event.

Wilson put on a show the entire weekend for coaches finishing with games of 14 points, 26, 18 and 33 in the finale.

But Williams wasn’t the only coach out to see Wilson as he was joined by some big programs to watch the Junior.

Oklahoma’s Lon Kruger, Michigan’s John Beilein and assistants from Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech were all there to see Wilson. His recruitment is starting to heat up and most recently the four-star forward was ranked as a top 40 junior.

Following Saturday’s games, Wilson caught up with Rival’s Corey Evans to discuss his recruitment and break down the teams to see him.

Here’s part of what Wilson had to say about UNC in the interview with Evans:

"“That was their first time watching me play so really it was just good to see them here and I was just glad I was able to play well. To get that offer, it wouldn’t be a validation but it lets you know where you’re at. The best basketball player of all time went there so to have an offer from them would be great.”"

The Tar Heels are just one of the latest teams to jump into the race for Wilson, showing interest as of late. Other schools such as Oklahoma, Marquette, Michigan and Baylor have all done in-home visits with Wilson according to Evans.

It could be a good or bad thing that the Tar Heels are just now showing some interest.

Wilson also seems excited for the potential of receiving an offer from UNC. The Tar Heels have yet to extend an offer but if he continues to play like this, one will likely be coming in the future.

The small forward also plans on visiting UNC after the live period and but didn’t provide an update on official visits. If UNC does offer Wilson, they would likely be considered one of the favorites to land him.
