Seventh Woods claims the starting spot to begin the season, but Coby White has the better statistical season.

When looking for a point guard, there is a whole lot more to bring to the table than scoring. While scoring is a huge part, being a good passer, good defender, and a great leader are all equally as important.

That’s why Seventh Woods will win the starting spot from day one.

Sure, the scoring ability of Coby White has been raved about since he signed with UNC, but let’s not forget this: He is still a freshman.

Woods, despite missing plenty of time this past season, has been in the program for a couple of years now. He has learned Roy Williams’ offense, which is one of the hardest things for freshmen to do.

When looking at the two players qualities, Woods is the better passer, defender, and as far as we know, a better leader. White could come in and change that narrative from day one, but until that happens, I do not think White will get the starting spot.

But White will still fill up the nets. He has been heralded as one of the best shooters in this class, and one of the best pure scorers. That’s something that Woods lacks.

For 2018, I see Seventh Woods starting the entire season at the point guard position, but White will be averaging around 10-12 points per game. Woods will hover around 7-9 per game, but what he will bring as a passer and a defender will set him apart from White.
