Tar Heels Tidbits 2/21: Diamond Heels lose, UNC on the road and more

The latest on the North Carolina Tar Heels to help you get your day started off right
We are approaching the final two weeks of the regular season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, with the North Carolina Tar Heels in good position for a double-bye.
The Tar Heels have three games left, including tonight’s road game against Syracuse.
A win would help UNC’s chances in getting a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and starting with two possible games in Charlotte.
But the basketball team wasn’t the only athletics team in the news.
Baseball also started their season over the weekend, winning the series against USF 2-1. They returned home to Chapel Hill for the home opener on Tuesday.
There was also news regarding former Tar Heels in the NBA and the NFL, making significant headlines.

Baseball
- The Diamond Heels won their opening series over the weekend, beating South Florida on Saturday and Sunday.
- They followed that up with a loss in their home opener to UNCW. Starter Caden O’Brien had a heck of a debut despite the Heels getting the loss.
- Michael Busch hit another home run as he continues his hot start to the season.
Heels in the Pros
- Former UNC standout, Harrison Barnes, had an awesome gesture for 150 kids. Read more about that here.
- Barnes’ former teammate Kendall Marshall is back at UNC and is involved with the program again.
- Zach Brown could see a big payday from the Washington Redskins.
- The Bears declined the option on guard Josh Sitton Tuesday, making him a free agent. He was a key piece to the Bears offensive line that protected for Mitchell Trubisky.
- The Charlotte Hornets could eye Mitch Kupchak according to the latest report.
Recruiting
- Class of 2018 5-star recruit and UNC target E.J. Montgomery provided an update on his recruitment, which is significant for the Tar Heels.
- Roy Williams and Steve Robinson watched 2020 forward Day’Ron Sharpe on Feb. 15th.
