You’ve Got a Friend

After the loss to the Hurricanes, Justin Fuente is in need of a friend.

If ever there is someone who understands where he is, it is Larry Fedora. Just last season, Coach Fedora was in the same shoes as Coach Fuente.

Both were coming off Coastal Championship seasons and both were looking for a rematch against Clemson. Then the big second loss came. For Fedora, it was Virginia Tech, for Fuente it was Miami.

Both seasons weren’t over, but they were going to need some help to get back.

Hopefully, things won’t go as south for Fuente as they did with Fedora, losing three of their last four including a rivalry game to an in-state team.

Luckily, unlike Fedora, Fuente is in a much better situation. He has a young quarterback who isn’t going to go pro this year and leave Virginia Tech in the lurk. Jackson had a rough game against the Hurricanes throwing two picks and no touchdowns, but he did complete 62 percent of his passes.

Fuente also has a friend in long time defensive coordinator Bud Foster who continues to keep the Hokies defense competitive. They may have allowed over 400 yards and 28 points to the Hurricanes but they also forced three turnovers and got two sacks.

Fuente also will have plenty of friends in Blacksburg as Hokie fans love what the new coach has done for the program following the retirement of Frank Beamer. Next up for the Hokies is Georgia Tech who has been reeling lately.
