Head coach Roy Williams has had a busy week hitting the recruiting trail

We are just a few weeks away from the college basketball season and the recruiting buzz is starting to pick up.

With a new recruiting period open, coaches are out on the trail putting in the hard work.

That includes University of North Carolina head coach Roy Williams who hit the trail again this week to visit some big recruits.

The week started with Williams visiting his two commitments in the 2018 class in guards Rechon “Leaky” Black and Coby White.

Williams met with both players for in-home visits on Monday posing for photos with the recruits and their family.

Side note before we continue: Gotta love Roy going with the Steve Jobs look but instead in white.

The four-star guards were early commitments for UNC’s 2018 class, both committing in 2016.

Williams journey Monday continued with a stop at Oak Hill Academy to see 2019 target Josh Nickelberry. The guard recently took an unofficial to UNC and has had nothing but positive things to say about the program.

We wrote on Nickelberry and UNC a week ago, as the Tar Heels appear to be the favorites to land the recruit as of now.

The Tar Heels currently have one commitment in the 2019 class when they landed point guard Jeremiah Francis out of Ohio. Grabbing Nickelberry would be a boost to the glass and would load up the Tar Heels guard position even more.

On Tuesday, it was an early morning visit for Williams to go see class of 2018 power forward Simi Shittu.

Williams was one of the coaches that attended a 5:45 a.m. workout at Vermont Academy on Tuesday morning. Shittu recently cut his list down to 10 and included UNC, but has not given the Tar Heels an official visit just yet.

Shittu called UNC a “learning environment” last month when discussing the seven schools that are recruiting him the hardest.

It’s been a busy week for Williams and as we go on, it will only get bigger.

Next: Which recruits will UNC land?

The Tar Heels will begin practice in a few weeks so make sure you check back with Keeping It Heel for more coverage.
