The 2019 guard updates his summer, recruiting process, and who might be the favorite to land the four-star.

Getting ready to start his junior year, Josh Nickelberry will be playing in a different gym than he is used to.

The 6-foot-4 guard will be the newest face to enroll in the legendary Oak Hill Program with coach Steve Smith, and will look to be the next great player to come through the program..

Nickelberry, who is having a great summer, will be at USA Men’s Junior National Team Minicamp in October, after being named to the Prep Hoops 16U All-Second Team.

In terms of his play this summer, Nickelberry who sat down with Andrew Slater of 247Sports, said how is game has grown since the end of last school’s season.

"“….I could score, I could facilitate, I could do anything to win for my team, so that’s what I showed them. Yeah, I showed everything. I showed my athleticism, I showed my defense… “"

And that is exactly what he did until a broken finger sidelined him for the remainder of the summer session.

This past weekend he was at Carolina for an unofficial visit along with 2019 five-star wing Joey Baker.

The two highlighted the list of recruits in attendance for the Tar Heels and hunt out with members of the current basketball program on the sidelines.

Even before this recent visit, there was something about Carolina that got Nickelberry extremely excited.

"“I mean, I love it out there. It’s a great atmosphere. They love their basketball team. Fans are crazy…. It’s a great place to play at.”"

Not only is he being recruited hard by the Carolina staff, it doesn’t hurt that the Tar Heels hold a commitment from a good friend of his, Jeremiah Francis.

Nickelberry would not only a great addition to the Tar Heels, but depending on the timing of a possible commitment from him, he could also bring in fellow Tar Heel targets Armando Bacot and Ashton Hagans, as they are all very good friends.

Bacot will be in attendance Saturday for UNC’s football game against Louisville along with several other recruits.
