North Carolina commits Jalek Felton, Coby White named first team all-state

Not only are the North Carolina Tar Heels the 2017 NCAA Tournament champions, but they’re also one of the most promising programs in the country with their talented crop of incoming high school talent.

On Thursday, USA Today announced its all-state basketball selections, and two North Carolina commits were named to their respective state’s first team.

Class of 2017 combo guard Jalek Felton made first team all-state in South Carolina after averaging 23.4 points, 5.5 assists and 3.2 steals for Gray Collegiate.

He was named the South Carolina 2A Player of the Year as well as making appearances in the annual Jordan Brand Classic game and the inaugural Iverson Roundball Classic weekend of events.

Felton is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound combo guard out of Columbia, South Carolina and the No. 26 prospect in the class of 2017 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the top player at his position and in the state of South Carolina.

Below is the entire first team, which is headlined by highly touted and often talked about class of 2018 small forward Zion Williamson.

Fresh off of a big weekend on the Nike EYBL circuit, class of 2018 prospect Coby White was named first team all-state in the state of North Carolina.

White was named North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year and  MaxPreps Junior All-America honorable mention after averaging 31.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game this season.

White is a 6-foot-5, 185-pound combo guard out of Wilson, North Carolina who is currently ranked No. 50 in the class of 2018 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the No. 2 combo guard in the class and No. 4 prospect in the state of North Carolina.

Below is the entire first team, which is headlined by Sage Surratt, who was also named A.P. Offensive Player of the Year for football in the state of North Carolina. Once a highly sought after recruit by Larry Fedora and the North Carolina Tar Heels, Surratt is the first athlete to ever win both awards in the same year.
