Jalek Felton named 2017 South Carolina 2A Player of the Year
The North Carolina Tar Heels are getting a good one in 2017 combo guard Jalek Felton.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound prospect out of Columbia, South Carolina continues to rack up the accolades on his way through high school before arriving in Chapel Hill next summer.
On senior night at Gray Collegiate last week, Felton scored 50 points with his uncle Raymond in attendance.
And during the Jordan Brand Classic Senior Night Tour, Felton was honored for his inclusion in the 2017 Jordan Brand Classic.
More recently, the talented high school senior was named South Carolina 2A Player of the Year as voted on by the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association. The list of award winners was released on Wednesday and honored players in four classes based on school enrollment.
For the season, Felton is averaging 26.4 points per game including multiple 50-point games and dozens of highlight-reel plays. His teammate, class of 2019 prospect Juwan Gary, was also named to the 2A All-State basketball team.
Although he’s still several months away from taking up residence in Chapel Hill, Felton is a popular individual on the North Carolina campus. Some of that, of course, is because of his last name. But some of it is because of his obvious love for the university and his unwillingness to waver from the commitment that he made more than two years ago when he pledged to Roy Williams and the Tar Heels.
