The First Flex

Seeing Brice Johnson flex in 2016 isn’t that rare. In 2012 though, it wasn’t such a common occurrence.

Perhaps it speaks volumes to the growth of his game that Tar Heels fans saw it so often during his senior season, compared to that of years passed.

In November of 2012, early in Johnson’s freshman season, the Tar Heels took a trip to Hawaii to play in the Maui Invitational. Considered one of college basketball’s best early season tournaments, UNC would get the opportunity to play some tough competition on the front end of their 2012 campaign.

In an eventual loss to Butler, Brice Johnson threw down an emphatic dunk that was promptly followed by a scream and a flex. He was excited about the play and letting it out the only way he knew how.

To the delight of UNC fans, this is a sight that they’d see many more times over the next four years. It came to be expected if Johnson made a big shot or powerful dunk. It helped energize him and his team, and the fans loved it.
