Feb. 2Nd, 1995: #2 UNC 102, Duke 100: The Devils were suffering through their worst season since the early 80s and were without their coach out for the year recovering from back surgery. The Heels jumped all over the overmatched Blue Devils early racing out to a 26-9 lead thanks to highlight dunks by Rasheed Wallace and a legendary reverse slam by Jerry Stackhouse that has become a staple in every highlight package about this rivalry.

However, Duke would fight its way back taking a 12-point second half lead then it was the Tar Heels turn to rally. Cherokee Parks hit two free throws to send the game into overtime tied at 81. UNC lead 95-92 when Serge Zwikker went to line, the big man missed both free throws then Jeff Chapel did his best Walter Davis impression hitting a running 37-footer to send the game into double overtime. Donald Williams and Jeff McInnis made key plays down the stretch to seal the win for the Heels.

This game has often been considered the greatest in the rivalry’s history which is highly debatable due to the fact that this was Duke’s worst team in years and that they were playing without their head coach.
