The UNC women's basketball program is currently listed in the Top 25 of the AP Polls, and hold a record of 16-3 overall — 4-2 in the ACC Conference. This season is flying by, and before you know it, a fresh supply of Tar Heels will arrive in Chapel Hill.
Class of 2025 four-star commit Nyla Brooks from Alexandria, Virginia, has been named to the Naismith Trophy Midseason Team.
Brooks attends Bishop Ireton and is listed as the No. 21 player nationally and No. 4 at her position, along with No. 1 in the state, per 247Sports.
Brandon Clay of 247Sports shares a scouting report on Brooks' game:
"Brooks is one of the country’s best at using her energy to be productive around the basket. She has displayed some range on her outside shot, though that’s an area I would expect her to continue building upon once she arrives at college. For now, her willingness to be a high-level rebounder both in her area and out will be paramount to her early success. Brooks is one of the few forwards in the class who projects as a plus defender and rebounder early in her college career. She’ll need to capitalize on that and also excel at attacking the paint off the dribble drive."
It will be fun to watch Brooks dominate on the interior — standing at 6-foot-2. Brooks can help space the floor, allowing more room for the Tar Heels guards to work with.
Georgia, Maryland, and Tennessee also offered Brooks, but she had her mind set on Carolina — announcing on August 29, 2024. Four-stars Taliyah Henderson and Taissa Queiroz (already enrolled) are a part of Brooks' freshman class.
Time is ticking and it will be Brooks' turn to step on hardwood inside of Carmichael Arena — hopefully she can help continue the program's success and make her own mark.
