So, you're saying there's a chance? For a little while now, there's been plenty of buzz that prized transfer Andrej Stojakovic, who just wrapped up a phenomenal season with Cal, could be a lock to join Illinois next season.

Stojakovic just took his visit to Illinois and the expectation indeed has been that he'll be playing in the Big Ten next season. Don't tell that to Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program, however. While the Tar Heels have a bit of catching up to do, they're not ready to throw in the towel.

According to reporter Jon Rothstein, North Carolina continues to be in contact with Stojakovic, with Davis clearly making him a priority before he ends up shutting down his recruitment. Davis making a push to sign him sure makes sense, especially with Drake Powell announcing he's leaving Chapel Hill to enter the NBA Draft:

North Carolina won't give up on dream transfer portal target Andrej Stojakovic

As you might have been able to guess, North Carolina isn't the only program still involved, with Cincinnati, Washington, Gonzaga, USC and Florida still working the phones. This could end up being a case where the highest bidder comes out on top in the race to sign Stojakovic.

From an NIL perspective, UNC could have more funds available with Powell leaving for the NBA, while Ven-Allen Lubin entering the portal has people wondering whether or not he'll return to UNC next season or not. He said he will, but you never know how things might shape out.

Regardless of that, if Davis and his staff can somehow convince Stojakovic that donning Tar Heel blue is the best move for his present and future, it would be an unreal addition for this roster ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Last year for Cal, Stojakovic averaged 17.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. From the moment he decided to leave Cal, UNC supporters have essentially been praying to the Basketball Gods to deliver him to Davis. Previously, North Carolina swung and missed in trying to sign the sharpshooter. Will things be different this time around despite Illinois being the presumed leader? Never say never.
