The North Carolina Tar Heels and Scott Forbes are just one win away from doing the unthinkable. Never in program history has UNC reached the College World Series Finals, but the Heels are on the brink of getting things done there. And it looks like the oddsmakers in Vegas are feeling pretty darn good about things too.
Fresh off the win over West Virginia, which of course led to Pat McAfee enjoying some humble pie, North Carolina is ready for the national semifinals on Wednesday. With that, North Carolina currently holds -115 odds to go on and win the whole dang thing according to the FanDuel Sportsbook. This has plenty of people talking, and understandably so.

UNC favored to win its first College World Series title in program history
In the previous showdown vs. West Virginia, a 5-2 victory was posted, with Tar Heels fans breathing a major sigh of relief. From that win, you've simply got to tip your hat to pitcher Walker McDuffie, who took the bump and was brilliant in a key spot.
UNC fans won't be thrilled with the rough start time for the CWS semifinal
McDuffie, who took over for Ryan Lynch, tossed 3.2 inning of nearly-perfect ball. He only gave up three hits, with no earned runs sure standing out. On top of that, don't forget about Gavin Gallaher, as he delivered with his two-run triple in the seventh inning to give Carolina the lead. UNC, of course, never looked back.
Skipper Scott Forbes is ready for UNC to keep pushing
If you're fired up over the Tar Heels moving on to the CWS semifinals, just imagine how Forbes is feeling. In recent weeks, there was a ton of buzz surrounding the veteran coach potentially bolting for South Carolina - that was all pretty dang silly in our book.
Kevin Schnall got the job at USC, and all the Forbes rumors came to a close. Now, he's more locked in than ever to help UNC win it all. While having to wait until Wednesday to play is a bit concerning for some, don't think even for a second that Forbes has that particular worry on his mind right now.
"I mean, I believe in honesty," Forbes told the media via the Tar Heels Wire after taking down West Virginia. "It feels great. I mean obviously we want to prepare and play well on Wednesday. But my first year back here as pitching coach in 2006, I wasn’t in here. Coach Fox was in here after a Robert Woodard complete game at Clemson. But we haven’t won that second game since then.
"So obviously it feels great to win that game. I’m glad that I’ve been in that position. Maybe that can help me prepare and make sure that our guys don’t get too comfortable and understand that, hey, our goal is just to play really well on Wednesday. But I think I’ll sleep pretty good tonight after going 2-0, that’s for sure."
As of this writing, UNC is still awaiting the winner of Troy vs. West Virginia for its CWS semifinal opponent. Once that game wraps up, the Tar Heels will take their Wednesday prep to the next level, with one goal in mind: to post another thrilling win, and head to the CWS Finals.
