With all of the great work Michael Malone has been able to get done for North Carolina this offseason, it's no surprise that a lot of the focus has been on transfer commits and overseas signees. However, don't sleep on high school recruiting, with 5-star Maximo Adams being the headliner. With that said, the addition of 4-star Kevin Thomas is also something that can't be overlooked.

Terrence Brown wastes no time soaking in the rich UNC history

Thomas was once LSU-bound, but he backed off his pledge and North Carolina was able to get him on board pretty late in the process. This wasn't some new commitment just to fill a roster spot. Thomas is loaded with potential and it looks like decision-makers at the next level agree. Wait, what? That's right, Thomas is getting early love from NBA scouts, which could end up being huge for Malone.

UNC commit Kevin Thomas could be an immediate contributor for Michael Malone

This is only going to have plenty of people even more jacked up for next season to get here. We all knew that Thomas had a lot of hype surrounding his name, but this just makes things even better. He's an athletic young man and his ability to shoot the rock from the outside stands out.

And it's something that could make an immediate difference for Malone in his debut season in the ACC. Thomas, a 6-6, 195-pounder, picked up 14 offers throughout his recruitment. Teams showing strong interest included UNC, Florida State, LSU, Miami and many others. In the end, though, Malone worked some late magic to get things done.

Thomas won't start right away, as those spots appear to be locked in for Matt Able, Terrence Brown, Jarin Stevenson, Matt Able and Alexandros Samodurov. However, having strong depth on the bench is major for the Tar Heels and Thomas will no doubt be ready to deliver whenever his number is called.

Scott Forbes isn't ready to back down with UNC baseball facing elimination

We don't have to tell you that Game 1 of UNC's Super Regional showdown with USC was a bit of a heartbreaker. The Tar Heels were in control for most of the contest, but a game-changing grand slam late in the action changed everything for the Trojans.

In the end, the west coast school was able to post a 9-5 win. North Carolina is now one win away from seeing its season end, but Forbes' words after the loss on Friday stood out in a good way. He's not ready to panic, as the Tar Heels remain confident they can bounce back in a needed way against the Trojans.

“That was a tough one," Forbes said via Tar Heels Wire. "You want to try to grab that first one but credit to Southern Cal, they have a really good team. Walker McDuffie has been outstanding for us. I’ll put that dude right back out there tomorrow. It just happens and the game can flip. That’s the beauty of baseball. But the beauty of a super regional is it is a three game series, and we’re trying to win the three game series, and this ain’t the first time we’ve lost the first game. So I told the guys, move on and flush it."

Will North Carolina be able to bounce back in Game 2 and force a Game 3? That's what the UNC faithful are hoping for. There was some bad luck involved in the series-opening loss, but we know the Heels have what it takes to get back up and punch back at the Trojans.
