Reports on Tuesday night indicate that Chip Lindsey, the UNC football program's offensive coordinator, is heading to Ann Arbor to take the same position for Michigan.

Since North Carolina is currently without a head coach, any of the remaining assistants on staff were always more likely to seek positions elsewhere than stick around for the Fenway Bowl. Chip Lindsey ending up at Big Ten Conference powerhouse Michigan probably surprised more than a few Tar Heel faithful.

Maybe it shouldn't, though. With Drake Maye under center, Chip Lindsey oversaw the No. 7 overall offense in FBS. This season, UNC dropped to No. 37 overall (just one below Ohio State), averaging 423.4 yards per game while scoring 43 touchdowns. More impressive was UNC's rushing offense, which was No. 31 overall with 189.5 rushing yards per game. Michigan was ranked No. 128 in overall offense this season (294.2 yards per game, 29 touchdowns) and No. 69 in rushing offense (160.7 rushing yards per game).

Whatever complaints Tar Heel Nation had about Chip Lindsey, outside observers probably took careful notes on how he platformed Drake Maye for passing success and Omarion Hampton for running domination. He's shown that he has variety to his play-calling and can adapt to emphasize a team's strengths. It's not his fault that he was always paired with a leaky defense, something he won't be burdened with at Michigan.

North Carolina continues to wait for its head coaching vacancy to be filled. Whoever that it is was always going to bring in their own offensive coordinator, and now that is official.
