Natrone Means has seen it all. In his three seasons at Chapel Hill, Means was a two-time All-ACC selection at running back, rushing for 3,074 yards and 34 touchdowns. He went on to become a second-round pick in the 1993 NFL Draft for the San Diego Chargers. He played in Super Bowl XXIX, and when he rushed for a touchdown in the 49-26 loss, he set the NFL record for the youngest player to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl at age 22 (that record was subsequently broken by Baltimore's Jamal Lewis).
After his seven-year NFL career with San Diego, Jacksonville, and Carolina was over, Means began his football coaching career in 2005. He started at small schools such as Livingston College, Winston-Salem State, and Fayetteville State. Mack Brown brought Means back to Chapel Hill in 2021 as an offensive analyst. He has helped stellar UNC running backs such as Ty Chandler, British Brooks, and Omarion Hampton.
The running back position has been important for the UNC football program for many years, so all eyes will be on Natrone Means to make sure he can keep the machine moving. His years of experience playing at the highest level combined with his years of coaching at various NCAA divisions will be a boon to Belichick's recruits. Hopefully ACC foes will learn what Chris Berman knew for a long time: Natrone Means Business!
