The UNC Football program announced their annual players of the game for this weekend's victory over Wake Forest.
The Tar Heels came up with a big Saturday night victory, 31-24, in Chapel Hill. The win made the Tar Heels bowl-eligible. Here are your weekly Tar Heels of the Game.
Star running back Omarion Hampton was the Tar Heels offensive player of the game. This is unsurprising, as Hampton has been unreal for North Carolina this year. Hampton ran for 244 yards on 35 carries to help lead the Tar Heels to a 6-4 record. He also ran in the game-winning touchdown with 2:26 left in the 4th quarter to put the Tar Heels up 31-17. Hampton is having another remarkable year with 1,422 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. He is now 82 rushing yards and a touchdown away from tying the career highs he set last season.
On the defensive side of the ball, Power Echols was the Tar Heel defensive player of the game. The senior linebacker had four total tackles and a pick-six in this week's game. Echols took his interception 42 yards and gave the Tar Heels some insurance, putting them up 24-10 at the time. Echols now leads North Carolina in tackles with 64 and now has a very memorable interception to his name.
Lucas Osada and Tom Maginess are North Carolina's special teams players of the game. The junior punter, Tom Maginess, averaged 38 yards on six punts. Two of Maginess' punts landed inside the 20-yard line, and he totaled 228 yards. Osada once again handled kick-off duties, helping the UNC football program control Wake Forest's starting field possession.
The Tar Heels players of the game will look to continue to make big impacts this week vs the 5-5 ACC opponent, Boston College.
