Jaylon Nichols from Neville High School in Monroe, Louisiana committed to the North Carolina football program.

Today is national signing day, and head coach Bill Belichick and UNC football program general manager Michael Lombardi got to open a present early on Christmas Eve. Jaylon Nichols, a 247Sports three-star recruit, announced yesterday that he will join Belichick's first UNC team.

Nichols is a 6-foot, 185 pounds running back who ran for 1,417 yards and 24 touchdowns on just 219 carries in a spectacular senior season for the Neville Tigers. He joins a crowded running back room that will compete with each other for two or three spots in the rotation along with Demon June, Jariel Cobb, and Joseph Troupe.

Bill Belichick has shown that he is willing to recruit anywhere in the country, and adding a player from Louisiana certainly fits that pattern. Nichols is electric and will hopefully develop into a useful, if not dynamic playmaker for the Tar Heels.
