The UNC football program just secured a commitment from the No. 2-ranked linebacker in the transfer portal, Khmori House from Washington. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
The six-foot, 213 pound freshman from St John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California is heading to the east coast to sharpen his iron with Bill Belichick, and perhaps... maybe... be reunited with his defensive coordinator?
For those complaining that Belichick hasn't recruited any impact names thus far out of the transfer portal, this is the name you've been waiting for. House was a national-level recruit before committing to Washington. He was pursued by schools like Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Texas. Once House entered the portal, he was once again pursued by top-tier programs such as Florida, Michigan, Oregon, and hometown rivals Southern Cal and UCLA.
This is a huge get.
House is a tweener at just 213 pounds, but his lack of bulk has made him especially nimble containing running quarterbacks (a longtime bugaboo for North Carolinian defenses) and dropping into pass coverage. Here's a great play that he made for an interception against Northwestern:
And don't let his smaller size fool you into thinking he can't lay a hit. Here he is on a goal line stand against USC:
As a freshman, Khmori House had 33 tackles (19 solo), one forced fumble, one interception, and four passes defended. Without knowing what kind of defense North Carolina will roll out, it's difficult to say where House will line up, but he usually lined up on the edge, but can play in the middle or even deeper at safety for run-heavy packages.
Wherever he ends up, Khmori House is going to be an exciting addition to Bill Belichick's first UNC squad. Now we're just going to have to wait until after New Year's Eve when Washington finishes the Sun Bowl against Louisville to see if there's anything else to report relating to this transfer.
