A new twist has arrived for UNC basketball and it's one that fans aren't too happy about. This spring, veteran big man Ven-Allen Lubin surprised a lot of people when he said he was going to enter the transfer portal, but he calmed everyone down when he said his plan was to still play for the Heels next campaign.
However, there's been a lot of uncertainty surrounding his name in recent weeks and things just reached a new level. Unfortunately, it looks like the rumors with him potentially leaving for NC State are picking up steam. On Friday, a new 247Sports Crystal Ball pick came in for him to sign with the Wolfpack. Could an announcement be coming in soon?
NC State appears close to flipping Ven-Allen Lubin from North Carolina
The reaction from the UNC faithful isn't a surprising one, as a lot of people are disappointed in this update. Keep in mind that nothing is official and Lubin remains a Tar Heel. Could this end up being an NC State insider jumping things a bit too early?
That most certainly could prove to be the case. Remember, Lubin was adamant that he was only entering the portal due to things being up in the air with the NCAA House Settlement. With that said, it's indeed a bit alarming that the Wolfpack are now being so seriously linked to him.
It's been a busy offseason for Hubert Davis and his staff. In addition to the big-name high school prospects, headlined of course by Caleb Wilson, the program has signed transfers Jaydon Young, Jarin Stevenson, Kyan Evans, Jonathan Powell and Henri Veesaar will also be set to make an impact.
Lubin joined the Heels ahead of the 2024-25 season after previously suiting up for Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. He averaged 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds for Davis and Co. Should he end up signing with the Wolfpack, it'd be his fourth college program in as many years.
