The UNC Basketball program announced on Tuesday that it would start a home-and-home series with the Georgia Bulldogs over the next three seasons.

The Tar Heels will face the Bulldogs twice over the next three seasons, beginning in November 2026, with the series starting in Chapel Hill, with a date of November 13th already set in place. The two programs won't meet in 2027, and the series' return trip will take place in 2028, as the Tar Heels travel to Athens, Georgia.

The two programs have met a total of 18 times, with North Carolina holding a 13-5 advantage over the Bulldogs. Assuming the two programs don't get paired in the post-season during the 2025-2026 season, the matchup next winter in Chapel Hill will be the first between North Carolina and Georgia since 1998, when the Tar Heels prevailed 65-58 in Chapel Hill.

Of those 18 times, only 3 of them have taken place since 1990 as the two programs faced quite often during the 1920s and again in the 1960s, but rarely since.

Georgia is currently 9-1 in the 2025-2026 season, but has only one NCAA Tournament appearance in the last decade, when they lost to No. 8 seed Gonzaga during last year's NCAA Tournament. The Bulldogs have not advanced past the round of 64 since 2002 (and the NCAA vacated that season).
