The UNC basketball program has spent the majority of the Hubert Davis era piloted by point guards on the short end. RJ Davis (6-foot, barely) and Elliot Cadeau (6-foot-2) were elite in their primary skillset (scoring and passing, respectively), but were liabilities on the defensive end.
The last great tall Tar Heel point guard was Coby White (6-foot-5), who averaged 16.1 points per game in his only season in Chapel Hill. Nasir Anderson, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound point guard from Norcross High School in Norcross, Georgia could be the next great Carolina scoring lead guard.

Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels have extended an offer to rising junior guard Nasir Anderson. North Carolina isn't alone, as this high-rising prospect, who jumped 28 spots to land among the top 12 prospects in his graduating class, has earned a staggering amount of offers over the last two weeks.
Since June 15, these programs extended offers his way:
Kansas
Tennessee
Maryland
Georgia
Cincinnati
Florida State
Florida
LSU
California
Indiana
Ole Miss
Georgia Tech
Virginia Tech
Virginia
Louisville
Anderson is a 247Sports Composite 5-star recruit in the class of 2027 and is the No. 1-ranked point guard in his class. As his measurements hint at, he is stout in frame and uses it well to attack the rim with relentless ferocity. Earlier in June, he demonstrated a Trumpian adherence to "America First" during the 2025 FIBA U16 AmeriCup, leading Team USA to an undefeated 6-0 record and tournament championship. Anderson was the AmeriCup MVP, averaging 12.3 points and 6.8 assists per game.
Nasir Anderson will have his pick of suitors without a doubt. With UNC's renewed patronage to the basketball program, hopefully Hubert Davis will be able to put together a financial package enticing enough to keep the Tar Heels in the hunt for Anderson's services. The program's reach, history, and need at point guard should be enough to make them an attractive landing spot otherwise.
