Sayon Keitat has a busy schedule to close out his summer, with six official visits to Blue Blood college basketball programs scheduled over the course of less than a week. One of those visits is to Chapel Hill and the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Sayon Keitat official visit schedule

  • Kansas Jayhawks, July 28
  • Indiana Hoosiers, July 29
  • Kentucky Wildcats, July 30
  • Duke Blue Devils, July 31
  • North Carolina Tar Heels, August 1
  • UConn Huskies, August 2

UNC head coach Hubert Davis has a chance to make waves during the one-day visit with Keitat. If Davis can show just how special the Tar Heels are and convince Keitat to commit to North Carolina, he would show that he can still keep pace with the other Blue Bloods.

Over the last few years, Davis has been outpaced by head coaches like Duke's Jon Scheyer and UConn's Dan Hurley; it's just that simple.

On the recruiting trail and during the actual season, Davis has had a difficult time meeting the extremely lofty expectations that come alongside running a program like North Carolina. Landing Keitat could reverse the course he's been on.

Already this week, Keitat has met with Kansas head coach Bill Self, Indiana head coach Darian DeVries, and is actively meeting with Kentucky head coach Mark Pope. He will visit Scheyer and the Blue Devils before hitting Chapel Hill and closing out his recruiting tour with a trip to Connecticut.

Keitat is a 7-foot-0, 215-pound center in the class of 2027, so he is still a few years removed from joining the Tar Heels, or any other program he decides to commit to. However, laying the groundwork now to land his commitment is crucial for Davis and the Tar Heels.

The Italian big man could easily reclassify to 2026 and already possesses international experience that most American high school prospects never obtain. At the NBA Academy Games in July, Keita averaged 13.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per game.
