By JT Zangara
The UNC football program played great football this past Saturday at Virginia. The Tar Heels were underdogs heading into this ACC matchup but instead had a statement win, 41-14. During this dominant performance, three players stood out and became the UNC football program's Players of the Game. Wide Receiver JJ Jones, Defensive End Kaimon Rucker, and on Special Teams Michael Short.
Wide receiver JJ Jones was the Tar Heel offensive Player of the Game. The senior wide receiver had five receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Jones had the first touchdown of the game in the 1st quarter, and his second helped the Tar Heels gain a massive lead 24-6 in the late second quarter. JJ Jones leads North Carolina in receiving yards with 493 and touchdowns with 4.
Defensive end Kaimon Rucker had a great game against Virginia. He had eight total tackles with five solo and three assists. He also had three sacks and his first career interception. Rucker has been a big part of this defense when healthy and has been a great leader all season.
Michael Short was the Tar Heels Special Teams Player of the Game. The sophmore had two tackles, one solo and one assist. The special teams play by Short, and the Tar Heels held Virginia to only 60 total return yards in their one punt and two kickoff returns.
This was a fun game to watch led by Jones, Rucker and Short. The Tar Heels will look to build off this impressive win this Saturday, November 3rd at Florida State. The Tar Heels can jump back up to .500 on the year with a win in Tallahassee.
