Bill Belichick will need to find a replacement on his staff, after losing his cornerbacks coach Jason Jones to East Carolina.
The news was reported by ESPN College Football Insider Pete Thamel:
Belichick has already secured his defensive coordinator, also known as his son, Steve Belichick, from Washington. Now it's time to find a replacement for Jones after being a hand on deck the past two seasons.
If you are interested to know more about what Carolina's losing, this is what Jones has done as written on GoHeels:
"Jones came to Chapel Hill after spending three seasons as the safeties coach at Indiana. During his time as a Hoosier, he mentored Jamar Johnson (first team) and Devon Matthews (third team) to All-Big Ten recognition. Johnson became the first IU safety to earn first-team honors since Eric Allen in 1996. He tied for third in the conference and eighth nationally with four interceptions before being selected by the Denver Broncos in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the first Hoosier safety drafted since 1996. During the 2020 season, the Hoosiers led the league and finished second nationally with 17 interceptions."
"In his first season at UNC, Jones helped guide a secondary that produced 12 interceptions on the year, the most since the Heels posted 14 in 2019. Alijah Huzzie was originally slated to be one of the teamβs top corners but injury forced him to the nickel position. While there, Huzzie recorded 42 tackles, three INTs and six PBU en route to honorable mention All-ACC honors. Marcus Allen led the group in tackles with 49, while grabbing an INT and breaking up eight passes. Armani Chatman filled a critical role, adding two INTs and four PBU."
Surely, Belichick has tons of contacts varying from the NFL and college to make up for what is lost. He mentions the scrolling he has had to do on Instagram as a part of all of the communication that's being dealt with in his latest appearance on the Pat McAfee Show.
Humorous, intriguing, assertive, there's a ton not to like about UNC's new head coach.
