"Tar Heel of the Game" for the UNC basketball program's win over Georgia Tech
The UNC basketball program pulled out a close 68-65 win over Georgia Tech, despite opening the contest as an 18.5-point favorite. Tight margins like this focus your eye on who was most efficient with their contributions.
For the fourth time this season, that means your Tar Heel of the Game is Seth Trimble.
Trimble scored a team-high 19 points on 5/6 shooting from the floor, and hit his only three-point attempt. He was also excellent from the free throw line, connecting on 8/9. For an undersized UNC squad, he contributed seven rebounds, second only to Ven-Allen Lubin's eight.
Perhaps more important than all of that was Trimble's four steals. Georgia Tech had 74 possessions compared to North Carolina's 70. Remember what we said about tight margins? His steals were impactful all over the floor. In the first half, he had Terry Lance in the Uso Penitentiary, locking him up from beyond the arc. At one point, he simply reached into Lance's lap and pulled the ball loose. When UNC switched up defenders, Lance started cooking to the tune of 22 points, a game-high.
Seth Trimble is playing bigger than his six-foot-three frame belies. North Carolina will struggle against bigger teams, but they'll always have a chance if Trimble plays like he did against the Yellow Jackets.
