Walker McDuffie and Ryan Lynch. Two freshmen pitchers who played significant roles in the UNC baseball program's advancement to the Super Regionals.

Lynch started that final game of the series, throwing seven innings, allowing three hits, three runs (two earned), and one free pass to first base with a walk. But the freshman starter gave the Tar Heels a chance — the chance to go to Omaha for the College World Series. McDuffie, on the other hand, did not find the same success he had all season long, throwing just 1/3 of an inning before senior Aidan Haugh came in to prevent any more runs from being scored.

However, McDuffie's outing in that game does not define his season, as he is listed on the Perfect Game Freshman All-American squad alongside Lynch.

McDuffie performed his work in a relief role, stepping onto the mound when called upon by head coach Scott Forbes. However, it's worth noting that he started one contest against George Mason on April 29 at home. The Tar Heels won by a score of 13-4 as McDuffie threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing two hits and surrendering one earned run, but picked up three strikeouts along the way.

Lynch became instrumental as he had the second-lowest ERA on the team behind Jake Knapp, who went undefeated with a 14-0 record. He concluded his season with five wins, making 27 appearances throughout the year. And for what it's worth, he allowed a total of 20 earned runs while striking out 73.

Despite Carolina losing Jake Knapp due to ineligibility, Forbes knows that he will have two proven underclassmen to help the program find its way back to Omaha. For now, it's offseason time and plenty to work on for McDuffie and Lynch.
