Seth Trimble: "I really want to be the ACC Defensive Player of the Year"
By JT Zangara
At the ACC Tip-Off event in Charlotte, UNC basketball standout Seth Trimble was asked about one of his goals for the upcoming season. Trimble wants to bring home an ACC Defensive Player of the Year Award, as he credited one of his current teammates for helping him improve every day.
"I think I really want ACC Defensive Player of the Year. ... I guard the best player in the country each and every day."
Trimble explained how he is getting better every day because he is facing the best player in the country, RJ Davis. Davis, the reigning ACC Player of the Year, is coming off a remarkable season in which he earned first-team All-American honors and was a finalist for a handful of national Player of the Year awards.
Iron sharpens iron, as Trimble has the opportunity to compete against one of the nation's top offensive talents. In the same token, Davis has the task of trying to be efficient offensively into one of the country's top defenders, as the head-to-head battles should benefit both sides come opening night.
Trimble averaged 5.2 points while playing around 17 minutes per game last season. The UNC basketball guard is expected to be a big part of the Tar Heels' regular rotation, whether he's asked to start the game or once again set to be the team's first option off the bench.
The last Tar Heel to win Defensive Player of the Year was forward John Henson following the 2011-2012 season. Henson won the award in two consecutive seasons (as he also earned the honor for the 2010-2011 campaign), and Trimble looks to join Henson and become the second Tar Heel to ever take home the award.
