The talk surrounding the UNC women's basketball program has been the subtractions to the roster via the transfer portal.

Hey, let's talk about the positive side of the portal, as Courtney Banghart and her staff have landed a commitment from a rather notable true point guard.

As posted on her social media accounts, Richmond transfer Grace Townsend has committed to North Carolina. She will come to Chapel Hill with one season of eligibility remaining.

Townsend put together a very strong four-year career at Richmond, accumulating 1,244 points, 559 assists and 558 rebounds. She shot 46% from the floor while knocking down 76.6% of her free-throw attempts.

This past season, Townsend averaged 13.4 points, 5.2 assists, and five rebounds per contest. Although she's listed at 5-foot-5, this is a player who plays bigger than her size, as she should bring a much-needed element to next season's roster.

We knew this offseason was going to be filled with roster moves for the UNC women's basketball program, and quite frankly, that's okay. Although no one wanted to see any of the players depart via the transfer portal, the incoming freshman class (along with the transfer portal additions) have an opportunity to help keep the program succeeding at a high level moving forward.

Townsend likely isn't the last transfer portal addition the Tar Heels will make this offseason, as we'll have to wait and see what Courtney Banghart has up her sleeve.

Last year's transfer class made a huge impact. The goal is for this year's to do the same.
