Arguably the best quarterback in UNC Football history, Drake Maye is preparing for the 2024 NFL Draft, which is two months away. With the NFL Draft, comes several stops along the way, including the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

Maye joined Adam Schefter on his weekly podcast on the episode Quarterbacks Are Currency and shared that he had been spending time with former 15-year NFL veteran quarterback Philip Rivers. Maye shared that one of the most impressive feats Rivers accomplished throughout his long NFL career was the ability to stay healthy.

From 2006 until 2020, he started in sixteen games each season and finished his career, starting 240 of the 244 total games he played in. They share a similar size for the quarterback position as Rivers is listed at six-foot-five and Maye is six-foot-four.

Maye can learn more than just how to stay healthy from Rivers. The former Chargers quarterback was an eight-time Pro Bowler in the NFL and led the league in passing yards during the 2010 season.

Maye jokes that Rivers is a fellow ACC quarterback, even though he attended the wrong school (NC State). It is an amazing asset for Maye to have an NFL veteran QB (even from a rival school like NC State) willing to train and provide valuable lessons while preparing for the upcoming NFL Combine and NFL Draft.

Shortly after this podcast was recorded, it was announced by BleacherReport that Maye is not expected to participate in any throwing drills at the 2024 NFL Combine this upcoming weekend.

You can catch other Tar Heels, such as Tez Walker, Cedric Gray, and Myles Murphy, at the NFL Combine beginning on Thursday, February 29th, on the NFL Network. Maye could participate in non-throwing drills, such as the 40-yard dash, but that has not been reported.
