UNC Football: Noah Burnette named Lou Groza Award's Star of the Week
By JT Zangara
Noah Burnette was lights out for the UNC football program during their 19-17 victory over the Minnesota Gophers.
Burenette connected on four field goals and an extra point while being on the road. All four field goals were made in the second half and were the only Tar Heel points.
Burnette knocked in a career-long 52-yard field goal in the 3rd quarter and stayed hot with 42-yard and 45-yard field goals to win the game in the final 10 minutes. This performance earned him Star of the Week Honors from the Lou Groza Award.
Brunette came up clutch again when the Tar Heels needed him this week. Especially in a tough road atmosphere at Minnesota, the grad student was able to perform at his best. The game-winning kick with 1:59 remaining sealed a very important ACC vs. Big Ten win. After an impressive season last year, making 18-19 field goals and all 43 PATs, it seems like Brunette is leaving right where he left off. We could see Brunette adding a couple more awards throughout the season.
Burnette was accompanied by Notre Dame kicker Mitch Jeter and Michigan kicker Dominic Zvada among the Week 1 Lou Groza Award's Star of the Week. Jeter and Zvada were both 3/3 in their opening-week victories. Brunette will look to continue to impress going into a non-conference week two contest vs Charlotte in the UNC football program's home opener at 3:30 on Saturday, September 7th.
