A significant update on Tar Heel quarterback Max Johnson has just been revealed.

By now, we've all heard that the Texas A&M transfer will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season due to a broken leg injury suffered in week one against Minnesota.

What most Tar Heel faithful weren't aware of was what his future in Chapel Hill may look like.

But now, just eight days after his devastating week one injury, Johnson has revealed that he intends to return to the North Carolina football program for the 2025 season.

Here's the complete statement from Max Johnson via ESPN:

"These last eight days have been a serious grind and it has taken a lot to get to other side and start the recovery process. I want to thank Dr Templeman and his team, the nurses and support staff at Hennepin County Medical Center who took amazing care of me. Thank you to UNC Head Coach Mack Brown, the coaching staff, and trainers who have encouraged and supported me. Thank you to family and friends who have prayed and supported me during this time and ultimately my Lord and Savior that pulled me though. It will be hard to sit on the sidelines, but I have a lot of football left in me and know I will be back out there next year. In the meantime, I'll be there every day supporting my teammates and helping out as much as I can. I appreciate all the love and support from the fans –."

Because the season-ending injury occurred at the beginning of the 2024 season, the grad transfer is expected to take a medical redshirt year this season, granting him an extra year of eligibility.

Sophomore quarterback Connor Harrell is expected to be the starter for the remainder of the 2024-25 season and will have the full support of Johnson throughout the season from the sidelines.
