The UNC Football program enters the 2024 season perilously thin at running back. While the Tar Heels boast one of the best (if not THE best) running backs in the country in Omarion Hampton, only two other running backs on the roster as of this writing have significant collegiate experience.

Coach Mack Brown is looking towards the future at the running back position, as he extended an offer to one of the best running back prospects in the Class of 2025, Isaiah West. The offer came not long after West made an official visit to Chapel Hill on Saturday.

A native of Philadelphia, West plays for longtime powerhouse St. Joseph's Prep. The six-foot, 208-pounder helped lead the Hawks to a 14-1 record and a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association 6A title. He plays on a squad that boasts several blue-chip recruits, including Cincinnati commits Samaj Jones and Elijah Jones and West Virginia commit Brandon Rehmann. "The Prep," as it is popularly called in the Philadelphia area, was ranked seventh in the SBLive/Sports Illustrated Power 25, and the only blemish on its schedule was a loss to IMG Academy.

West has also attracted offers from Penn State, Boston College, Kentucky, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, and UConn. ESPN ranks him as the 30th best running back prospect in the country and the 10th best prospect in Pennsylvania, while Rivals.com ranks him as the 15th best prospect in Pennsylvania.

To put it mildly, this would potentially be a huge get for the UNC Football program. With Hampton on track to leave Chapel Hill after his junior season, the Tar Heels are going to need to find someone to pass the torch to once he does depart.

Could West be that guy?
