Sebastian Cheeks joined the UNC football program for the 2022 as a true freshman and appeared in three games for the Tar Heels. Cheeks recorded three tackles in three games as a linebacker and on special teams before sitting out the rest of the season due to injury. He was looking to have a rebound season in 2023 but appeared in eight games and recorded one total tackle in 2023. The lack of playing time forced the former four-star recruit to enter the transfer portal.

The Wisconsin football program pursued Cheeks out of high school in the 2022 recruiting class but ultimately failed to secure him, according to Inside Carolina. The Badgers didn't miss out this time as Cheeks announced his commitment to Wisconsin on Thursday.

The Wisconsin football program has been busy in the transfer portal since it opened on December 4. Cheeks is the third linebacker to commit to Wisconsin along with Leon Lowery from Syracuse and John Pius from William & Mary. Head coach Luke Fickell has a loaded transfer class coming in 2024, headlined by former Miami quarterback Tyler Van Dyke and wide receiver Tyrell Henry from Michigan State.

Cheeks joins a Wisconsin defense that allowed the sixth-fewest points per game at 18.9 in 2023. The Wisconsin football program gave up the eighth-fewest rushing yards and seventh-fewest passing yards per game last season. Sebastian Cheeks will watch his Wisconsin Badgers take on the LSU Tigers in the Relia Quest Bowl on January 1.
