UNC Football Extends Offer To Ivy League Transfer Offensive Tackle
By Jordan Falls
The UNC Football coaching staff has a lot of talent to replace along the offensive line heading into the off-season and preparing for the 2024 regular season. Mack Brown and the staff are attempting to do that by using the transfer portal. It appears as if they have extended an offer to Jalen Travis.
Travis is an Ivy League offensive tackle from Princeton. Originally from De La Salle High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Travis is projected to be a three-star transfer and ranks as the No. 16 offensive tackle currently in the portal, according to 247Sports.
At six-foot-nine and 315 pounds, he provides great size for the tackle position which can help in pass blocking and the running game with securing the edge. While his background is in the Ivy League, his list of accolades are impressive and one that the Tar Heels would certainly love to add.
During 2021, the Tigers were first in the Ivy League in scoring, second in passing offense and passing efficiency and third in total offense. In 2022 Travis was a starter and the team was No. 1 in passing offense and No. 2 in scoring offense.
The Tar Heels only have one player from last season's offensive line scheduled to return, it is crucial in finding key pieces to replace them to put the offense in the best possible position to succeed in 2024, especially when a new quarterback will be taking over with the departure of Drake Maye to the NFL Draft.
A step was taken in that direction over the weekend when Howard Sampson flipped his commitment from TCU to North Carolina. While offering a Ivy League transfer may not look impressive on the surface, it is one that could prove beneficial in the long-run if the Tar Heels are able to secure a commitment from Travis.
