The UNC football program took a huge jump in recruiting for the class of 2025 on Friday afternoon. Coach Mack Brown extended a scholarship offer to one of the top defensive prospects in that class, linebacker Jaedon Harmon of Rome, Georgia.

The 6-2 Harmon (listed as 6-1 by some sources) is ranked as the 150th best prospect in the Class of 2025, according to On3. So it should come as no surprise that the Tar Heels will have a fight on their hands to sign him. On the same day Harmon received an offer from the UNC football program, he also gained an offer from Southern Cal as well. Currently, Harmon also has offers from Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee, LSU, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Michigan, and Michigan State, among others.

Harmon is a very versatile player. While his primary position is linebacker, he can also play safety. Indeed, LSU is recruiting him as a safety, and a number of databases list him as an "athlete." The offense could potentially find a use for him as well; during his sophomore year at Rome High, he ran for 550 yards and six touchdowns.

Clemson is recruiting him as a linebacker, but according to Clemson Insider, sees him as a "defensive chess piece with the versatility to move around the gridiron." His profile is similar to a number of great Tar Heel linebackers like Brian Simmons, Brandon Spoon, Bruce Carter, and Chazz Surratt--all of whom used their devastating size and speed to wreak havoc against the run and the pass.

Harmon is also a solid student, as evidenced by the fact Vanderbilt is recruiting him. Vanderbilt, like Duke, has some of the most stringent admissions standards for student-athletes in the Power Five. He boasts of his 3.2 GPA in his X/Twitter profile. Whoever gets him will be getting a solid contributor both on and off the field.
