UNC football extends offer to Class of 2025 defensive lineman
Fresh off a solid 2024 recruiting class, the UNC football program is turning its full attention to the Class of 2025. On Wednesday, the Tar Heels extended an offer to Christian Evans, a defensive lineman from Ashburn, Virginia.
Evans announced the signing shortly after chatting with newly-promoted UNC football defensive line coach Ted Monachino.
Evans hasn't attracted much attention as of yet. In fact, the Tar Heels are one of only two Power Five schools to give him an offer, the other being Virginia. He also has offers from Army, Old Dominion and Liberty, and FCS schools Towson, Dartmouth, and Morgan State.
Chances are that Evans won't stay under the radar for too much longer. At Ashburn's Stone Bridge High, he has made a name for himself as a very versatile player who can play both ways if needed. He recorded nine pancake blocks as an offensive lineman while racking up 47 tackles (30 solo) and three sacks on defense.
While the Tar Heels are scouting him as a defensive lineman, he was named to the Virginia High School League's Class 5 all-state team as an offensive lineman. He was also named to the first team on both sides of the line for the VHSL's Potomac District, comprising most of the large schools in Loudoun County. He helped Stone Bridge to an appearance in the Class 5 state title game in 2023 after a 1-4 start, which would have been 0-5 if not for a win by forfeit.
Evans also appears to be a solid student, which is evidenced by the fact that Army and Dartmouth extended offers to him. The Ivy League and the service academies have some of the most stringent admissions standards in Division I, so you have to be a really good student even to get a look from one of them. Evans heavily touts his academics on his X/Twitter profile; he boasts a 3.52 GPA and is a member of Stone Bridge's National Honor Society. Whoever lands him will get a solid player both on and off the field.
