The UNC football program has added a fearsome edge rusher to its nascent 2026 recruiting class. Four-star recruit Zavion Griffin-Haynes committed to the Tar Heels.

Griffin-Haynes is the second commitment in the Class of 2026 after quarterback Zaid Lott from Charlotte's Providence Day School. He is a 247Sports Composite four-star prospect and ninth overall ranked prospect in North Carolina. Griffin-Haynes is an intriguing high school player, already standing 6-foot-6 but weighing just 220 pounds at 16 years old. He'll be able to add some good weight to that frame when he gets to a college weight program and training table.

Last season at Rolesville High, Griffin-Haynes started at defensive end and tallied 65 tackles (26 for a loss) along with 4.5 sacks and 20 quarterback pressures for the Rams. With that kind of production at a young age, it's no wonder he was pursued by high-major programs in the ACC, Big Ten, and SEC. Griffin-Haynes chose the UNC football program over four other finalists, Ohio State, NC State, Miami, and Tennessee.

A little more seasoning, a little more weight, and some opportunities could see Griffin-Haynes thrive in Chapel Hill. We'll look forward to seeing more of him in two years!
