Cole Holcomb is a big unknown heading into this season. Holcomb was the glue of the linebacker corps for the Steelers last season. Unfortunately, he suffered a serious season-ending knee injury in Week 9.

Up until that point, Holcomb was tied with star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick for the most total tackles on the team at 54. Holcomb has elite awareness and incredible positioning. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time and leaves his fingerprints all over the field.

Holcomb is expected to start the season on the Steelers’ Reserve/PUP (physically unable to perform) list, which keeps a player sidelined for at least the first four games. There hasn’t been much news on Holcomb lately, but many Steelers fans expect him to miss at least the first half of the season or potentially even longer.

Will Holcomb play at all this season? Will he be fully recovered from his knee injury? And if he does play, will he still be able to impact the team like he did last season? There are so many questions surrounding Holcomb, so he’s my wild card Tar Heel.

That's all for season superlatives. Will these five Tar Heels step up this NFL season, or will someone else fight their way onto the list?
