UNC Football: 2024 season superlatives for the Tar Heels in the NFL
By Luke Sugar
With his backfield-mate Alexander Mattison struggling in the second half of last season, Ty Chandler got his first crack at being a team’s lead running back. Chandler had a respectable stretch to close the season, with 419 rushing yards, 116 receiving yards, and three touchdowns in his final eight games.
ESPN’s Field Yates has Chandler’s current average draft position (ADP) at #133 in points per reception (PPR) fantasy leagues. In a 12-team PPR league, this means Chandler is being drafted roughly in the early 12th round. That’s an incredibly low-risk pick with some very intriguing upside.
The Vikings do bring in running back Aaron Jones from the Packers, who should split carries with Chandler. But Chandler is no stranger to a battle in the backfield. If he can build on his performance in the final eight games of last season, Chandler is a great value pick. Also, with news that rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy will miss the entire season with a torn meniscus, the Vikings’ run game will be more important than ever.
