Most members of the UNC basketball program thought that Armando Bacot would be an impact player when he arrived in Chapel Hill in 2019. What they didn't know was that Bacot would become the program's all-time leader in double-doubles with 74 and etch his name into the 2,000-point club in the team's win against Pittsburgh.

With his 16 points on Tuesday night, Bacot joined Tyler Hansbrough, Phil Ford, Sam Perkins, Lennie Rosenbluth, Al Wood, and Charlie Scott on the program's 2,000-point scorer list. Bacot looked like himself against the Pitt Panthers after struggling in the previous few games for the Tar Heels, as he posted his first double-double since December 5 against UConn.

Bacot had no problem getting to his spots on Tuesday night. He was a force on the offensive and defensive glass and affected multiple shots on defense. Bacot continued to impress from the free-throw line going six for six in the game, multiple coming down the stretch. The big man is shooting a career-high 78.3% from the free-throw line in 2023. This is impressive, considering how many times he gets to the line per game.

Since arriving as a freshman in the 2019-20 season, Bacot has seen his stats improve from year to year. He saw a slight decline in his productivity in 2022-23 as most of the UNC basketball program did, averaging 15.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. Bacot averaged almost a full point more and three rebounds more per game the previous season when the Tar Heels made it to the national title game against Kansas.

The new-look Tar Heels have seen R.J. Davis take the reins and Armando Bacot take a backseat in their resurgent 10-3 start to 2023-24. Last year, Bacot was the x-factor, and when he struggled, the team had nowhere to go. Although he hasn't been the focal point of late, don't forget about Armando Bacot, though; the North Carolina legend can take over any game in the blink of an eye.
