The UNC basketball program is beating the streets to lock up some Class of 2025 recruits. The most recent stop? Washington, D.C., home of Gonzaga College High School and its senior combo guard, Derek Dixon.

Derek Dixon is a 6-foot-5, 190-pound combo guard. He is a 247Sports Composite four-star recruit (#60 player overall) and fills a massive need for Hubert Davis in the backcourt. He plays his AAU ball with Team Takeover on the Nike EYBL circuit, scoring 15.3 points per game while shooting 43.1% from the field and an outstanding 39.4 from three-point range. It's easy to see that he can provide the Tar Heels with shooting, playmaking, and a secondary ball-handler.

Back in July, Dixon narrowed his school choice list to just six. Alongside North Carolina, he is considering Arizona, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, and Virginia. We are heading into crunch time in Dixon's recruitment, as he has said he'd like to make a decision by September 27, his eighteenth birthday. Making sure that the UNC basketball program is in the front of his mind when programs are allowed to visit him at his high school gym is crucial to keeping him focused for his official visit, which begins this weekend.

Dixon is scheduled to arrive in Chapel Hill on Friday, September 6. He will get to see the school and facilities with students on campus, and he'll no doubt be at the football game against Charlotte on Saturday afternoon with the rest of the basketball team.

Hubert Davis does not yet have a commitment from the 2025 class, so Dixon would be a great way to break open the logjam. His official visit to Chapel Hill is sandwiched between official trips to Vanderbilt last weekend and Arizona next weekend. Let's hope that those trips are moot and Dixon pulls the trigger with the good guys!
