UNC Basketball: Hubert Davis in attendance to watch top high school prospects

Two of the best high school basketball teams in the country face off today in Versailles, Kentucky, in the Court XIV classic. Hubert Davis will be in attendance to watch UNC basketball commit James Brown as well as recruiting targets Jasper Johnson and Darryn Peterson in action as Link Academy takes on Huntington Prep.

The Link Academy Lions come into the contest with a 12-4 record after playing a gauntlet of a schedule. Link has played AZ Compass and Duncanville and won, and they lost against the #1 team in the country Montverde Prep. The Lions have four-star center James Brown, who committed to the UNC basketball program and signed with them on November 8 2023. Brown is a 6-foot-9 center who had offers from Michigan State, Missouri, and Illinois, among others.

Link Academy also has 6-foot-4 guard Jasper Johnson who is a five-star recruit in the 2025 class. Johnson has been offered by the UNC basketball program but has yet to make a commitment. Johnson has received a lot of interest from the Big 12, as he has offers from Kansas, West Virginia, and Baylor.

Huntington Prep has not played the strength of teams that Link Academy has, but they still have plenty of talent. Their best player is five-star shooting guard Darryn Peterson out of the 2025 class. The 6-foot-5 guard has offers from UNC, Arkansas, Baylor, Indiana, and Kansas, among others.

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program will keep an eye on these players as they progress through their respective seasons. The 2023-24 North Carolina Tar Heels are a very experienced team which means they will lose the majority of their players next season. Coach Davis and company will look for freshmen and sophomores who can make a huge impact as they look to compete in a tough ACC.
