UNC Basketball: Former Tar Heel big man loves this year's team
By Jordan Falls
Former UNC Basketball big man John Henson was on the Field of 68 After Dark podcast following North Carolina's 81-69 victory over No. 7-ranked Oklahoma in the Jumpman Invitational and let his feelings about this year's version of the Tar Heels be well known on where he stands.
His love for this team starts with their effort and intensity on the defensive end of the floor. Henson mentions Cormac Ryan is the main leader by constantly moving his feet and being in position when needed, even referencing the block that was called on Ryan in the second half that was very obvious not a block.
Henson references how good of a team Oklahoma is and even when they continued to hit shots to stay in the game against the Tar Heels, North Carolina was still able to hit the shots they needed in order to keep the lead at a distance and pull out a victory against a very good Oklahoma team that was undefeated entering the game.
Henson also mentions the 2023-2024 UNC Basketball team is currently the highest-ranked Atlantic Coast Conference team, and some are even projecting that the Tar Heels are the favorite to win the conference with the non-conference portion of the schedule wrapping up, and we head into conference play.
It is certainly an encouraging sign when a former player who has been in the program speaks out with support and a positive outlook for the current team, especially following a big win. Many fans were feeling down following consecutive losses against UConn and Kentucky, but Henson, along with others, sees great potential for this year's team, and that has to be something to look forward to as the season progresses for UNC basketball fans.
