UNC Basketball: Five-star guard Jasper Johnson will make another visit to Chapel Hill
Five-star guard Jasper Johnson will reportedly be making another trip to Chapel Hill on Wednesday to visit with the UNC Basketball program. This news surfaced from a report from Inside Carolina.
The 6-foot-4 guard from Lexington, Kentucky, was offered by Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program last September and has been in close contact with the team since. The Class of 2025 prospect plays at Link Academy in Branson, Missouri. He included North Carolina in his list of just10 schools he is considering attending.
Earlier this year, Hubert Davis attended one of Johnson's Link Academy games along with some of the nation's top college coaches like John Calipari and Dennis Gates, where the five-star guard put on a performance of a lifetime, posting 37 points on ten made threes.
Johnson paid an official visit to Chapel Hill in February and attended the UNC-Duke game at the Smith Center, which the Tar Heels won 93-84.
In an interview with Inside Carolina, Johnson’s father, Dennis, spoke highly about the Tar Heels and their visit.
“We’ve been on three or four of these official visits and unofficial visits, but this was phenomenal… They’re just so authentic, and it was really cool that all of those guys (coaches) played at UNC. That’s crazy. We’re through the roof. They said they’re going to make it hard for us to go somewhere else. The way they treated us, it was just a great experience and we loved how authentic they are.”
There’s no question why Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball coaching staff want Johnson so severely. The rising senior earned a gold medal with the 2024 USA Men’s U18 basketball team at the FIBA U18 AmeriCup, averaging 10 ppg and shooting a team-best 42.3% from behind the arc.
Attending UNC would also mean a reunion for Johnson, who would join forces with his former teammate at Link Academy, James Brown, the current freshman center at UNC.
Johnson and his family seem to favor the Tar Heels, and a return visit to Chapel Hill for the number 2 shooting guard in the nation sounds like another step in the right direction.
