UNC Basketball: Drake Powell competing in the Nike Skills Academy
Incoming UNC Basketball freshman Drake Powell has been selected to compete in the 2024 Nike Skills Academy in Oregon this week.
The Nike Skills Academy, running Monday, August 5 to Thursday, August 8, features workouts, drills, practices, and scrimmages for college and high school players to showcase and improve their skills during the off-season.
The five-star recruit will compete in front of NBA scouts during the week-long outing before beginning his freshman season with the Tar Heels.
The Nike Skills Academy features two men's teams, one with high school players and one with college players. Each 15-man roster comprises some of the country's most elite talents at their respective levels.
Powell, the No. 11 overall-ranked player in the Class of 2024 coming out of high school, will play alongside top talents like Hunter Dickinson of Kansas, Aaron Bradshaw of Ohio State, and Jalil Bethea of Miami.
The Pittsboro, North Carolina native will hopefully grasp a better understanding of the college game throughout the camp, which should help prepare him for his first season in Chapel Hill.
Powell averaged 17.7 points and 7.9 rebounds in 30 games at Northwood High School his senior season. The six-foot-six 180 pound freshman is looking to make an immediate impact at North Carolina this season alongside fellow freshmen Ian Jackson and James Brown.
