UNC Basketball: A Michael Jordan autographed trading card sells for record price

One of North Carolina's most famous alumni, Michael Jordan, is still making headlines and setting records twenty years after retiring from the game.

This time, the UNC basketball legend wasn't breaking a record on the court but in one of sports enthusiasts' biggest hobbies.

The 2003 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Michael Jordan Signed Logoman sold in auction on June 2 for $2,928,000 on Goldin, setting the record for the most expensive Michael Jordan trading card ever purchased.

The one-of-one card features an NBA logo from one of Jordan's game-used jerseys and, of course, an autograph from the legend himself.

According to Goldin, the card is not just any card, but Jordan's first ever signed 'Logoman' patch card in a Chicago Bulls uniform. Despite being made two decades ago, this is the first time the card has ever been available in a public auction, making it a truly unique find for fans.

This purchase breaks the previous record for the most expensive Michael Jordan trading Card, which was set in 2021 when a 1997-98 Upper Deck Game Jersey game-worn patch card with an on-card autograph sold for $2.7 million.

The record is still well short of the all-time highest-selling piece of sports memorabilia, which belongs to the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, which sold for $12.6 million in August of 2022.

While Jordan's signed Logoman may never hold the top spot for most valuable memorabilia in all of sports, it's certainly built a commanding lead over any Grant Hill rookie card.
