Even though they've lost a handful of key contributors, the UNC baseball program is still considered one of the best teams heading into 2025.

About a month after the College World Series has come to a close, Baseball America has released their Way Too Early Top 25 for the upcoming 2025 season.

The UNC baseball program made the cut and is essentially in the middle of the Top 25 at No. 12 on the list, a ranking that puts them just ahead of ACC rival NC State.

The Diamond Heels are one of eight Atlantic Coast Conference teams in the Top 25. Florida State, Clemson, Virginia, and Duke all make the top 10; meanwhile, NC State, Stanford, and Wake Forest follow the Tar Heels between the 13 and 25 slots. This is the second-most by a conference behind the SEC's leading nine schools.

After losing some star players such as Vance Honeycutt, Casey Cook, Dalton Pence, and more, the Heels have big shoes to fill. Players such as catcher Luke Stevenson and infielder Gavin Gallaher will be important bats to the offense while Jason DeCaro, Cameron Padgett, and Folger Boaz will be important arms among the pitching staff.

According to Perfect Game, North Carolina has a big recruiting class, coming in ranked at No. 27 in the country and the eighth-best among ACC programs. Perfect Game has three of the UNC baseball program's incoming recruits among the top 150 prospects within the Class of 2024.

Scott Forbes and the Diamond Heels are expected to continue to make moves this offseason as well. The Heels are looking into the Transfer Portal and continuing to improve the roster for 2025. We know this is still a very early top 25, but it's safe to say the UNC baseball program plans on being a legitimate contender once next spring rolls around.
